Set up IPTV on Apple TV

This guide is for Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. You install an IPTV app from the App Store and add your subscription with Xtream Codes.

Before you start

An Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K. Older models have no App Store and cannot be used.
An IPTV app from the App Store, such as Smarters Player Lite, iSTB or IPTVX.
Your username, password and server address from the delivery email.

Step by step

On your Apple TV, open the App Store and search for the app you want. This guide uses Smarters Player Lite, which is free.
Install the app and open it. Accept the terms if you are asked.
Choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
Type any name, for example NXT IPTV.
Fill in Username and Password from your delivery email.
Type the server address from the email in the address field, including http:// and the port number.
Choose Add User and wait while the app loads the channels.

iSTB or IPTVX

Both apps are paid, with a clean design and a TV guide. In iSTB, add a new portal and pick Xtream Codes. In IPTVX, add a new playlist and pick Xtream. Then enter a name, the server address, username and password as described above.

Typing long addresses is easier with an iPhone. Open Control Center on the phone, choose the Apple TV remote and type with the phone keyboard.

Ready to watch

The app lists the channels by category. Choose a category, then a channel. The first time, the TV guide may take a moment to load.

Troubleshooting

Check the server address: http:// at the start, the port number at the end and no spaces.
Check the username and password. The M3U link in the email holds them too, after username= and password=.
One subscription plays on one device at a time. Close the app on your other devices.
Close the app fully: press the TV button twice and swipe up on the app. Then open it again.
Check in My Account that your subscription is active.

Answers to the questions people ask most before ordering

Can I use an older Apple TV?

No. Apple TV third generation and older have no App Store, so IPTV apps cannot be installed on them.

Which app should I choose on Apple TV?

Smarters Player Lite is free and covers what most people need. iSTB and IPTVX are paid, with a clearer TV guide. All three work with your subscription.

Can I use the same app on my iPhone?

Yes, several of these apps are available for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Read our iPhone and iPad guide.

How often should the TV guide update?

Once a day is enough. If the app asks for an update interval, choose that.
